![]() In short, the task of securing nuclear arsenals against attack is far more difficult than it was in the past. Various methods, evidence, and models demonstrate the emergence of new possibilities for counterforce disarming strikes. Specifically, two key approaches that countries have relied on to ensure arsenal survivability since the dawn of the nuclear age-hardening and concealment-have been undercut by leaps in weapons accuracy and a revolution in remote sensing. Advances rooted in the computer revolution have made nuclear forces around the world considerably more vulnerable. Technological developments, however, are eroding this foundation of nuclear deterrence. ![]() For much of the nuclear age, “counterforce” disarming attacks-those aimed at eliminating an opponent's nuclear forces-were nearly impossible because of the ability of potential victims to hide and protect their weapons. Without these changes, Fallout would have been a completely different game.Nuclear deterrence rests on the survivability of nuclear arsenals. Our list compiles some of the many changes that Fallout has faced during development from both Black Isle and Bethesda. Though old fans fought the changes, the Fallout series has flourished and has received worldwide success. The new developer kept a majority of the original series intact but also wanted to make changes to make the game accessible to new players. When Interplay faced bankruptcy and dismantled Black Isle Studios, the rights to Fallout were sold to Bethesda. ![]() Some of the changes were voluntary, but many were forced upon them by collaborators or management. With a brand new game with new lore to create, Interplay had to make several changes in development. Starring a person who spent the majority of their lives inside a vault, the vault dweller would experience a new world, along with the player. Also set in the aftermath of nuclear war, Fallout was a new open world experience. Interplay began developing a new role-playing game, which they called the spiritual successor to Wasteland. ![]()
